Amazon uk have been good to me and sent the CD a day early. Happy Days..

After one listen i will say its a full on classic sparks album.
Shades of "The Seduction" on" Life with the Macbeths" Not sure if they will perform that one live its quite stunning though!

Hello deadcalm,

I got my copy today too. Astonishing. Too bad Russian version of the album has NO song lyrics on it.

Could you kindly post here all the lyrics or at least post here lyrics sleeves photos, as it is so hard to understand lyrics full for someone who is not a native speaker.

Many thanks in advance!

Peter, are you suggesting that lack of lyrics on Russian version is due to USA sanctions against Russia?

Alex you must be joking!?

Let me put it this way...
There might be a lack of free spirit in Russia because of political situations (persons) ...

and today unfortunately there is Trump, a guy who is
not standing for all values that America still stands for..

There are rumors that Trump has been supported by the
Russian administration before he was elected ...

do you know what I mean?
this get`s a bit off topic, if you would like to discuss
please send me pm

Yes, mine arrived first thing this morning and instantly went into the CD player. I'm currently loving Macbeths, Giddy, and Unaware the most, but they're all great!

My thoughts after firs Hippopotamus listening. It is overwhelming and astonishing. Worths every second of waiting (and we WAIT for it for 10 years - Ingmar Bergman and FFS are not that at all).

Apart from 4 well-known songs (Missionary Position, Edith Piaf, What The Hell Is It This Time and Hippopotamus) I liked 2 songs most of all: Giddy Giddy and The Amazing Mr. Repeat. Masterpieces!

My least favorite song after first listening - When You're A French Director (despite the fact it is so much like Tsui Hark - on GSSV was Chinese power, now it is French one).

I liked the whole album very very much. And yes, it needs hundreds of listenings.

I couldn't understand a lot of the lyrics without reading from the booklet and English is my first language - so I can only imagine how hard it must be for you. It's because of the multiple Russells all singing at once and the speedy delivery of the faster tunes.

Have listened a couple times, and my first impressions are:

- It's kind of all over the place tonally. At one point I was thinking this was their most fun album since Angst (not counting FFS). A couple songs actually kind of reminded me of Weird Al Yankovic (not meant as an insult -- I'm a fan, and, of course, he's a fan of Sparks -- but still, not a comparison I've ever made before). And at another point I was thinking they've taken the most melancholy threads from Exotic Creatures and amplified them. Not saying this is a bad thing, just makes for a wild ride.

- Probably their "weirdest" album since the 70s. I've always considered Woofer and Indiscreet to be their "weird" albums, so this is also not meant as an insult. It's just an impression I get mostly based on certain lyrics and the way they're sung. (While Lil' Beethoven is not like any other album by anyone, I've never thought of it as "weird.")

- Some of their most atmospheric production as well.

- Will need to see the lyric sheet to get my head around some of these songs.

Its very varied . Not many bands would be brave enough to kick off the album with a song about the possible onset of Dementia .... Maybe you do not have to play the album in order either, as the 15 songs all have there own vibe..
"Bummer" another dark one in subject matter but really like it.

first Impressions from Spotify Premium ...(still waiting for
CD for full Hifi pleasure )
yes all of the tracks are fine and most of tunes are outstanding

Giddy Giddy ... somehow devoesk, still a step forward sonic wise

Unaware ... reminds me in certain (and awesome) way of
first two albums without being retro at all

Bummer ... superb structures, have to find out more about
lyrics

So Tell... classic Sparks in a sort of new sonic context ..

The Amazing Mr Repeat .... a strong and electronic approach
combined with melodic classic
Sparks theme

A Little Bit Like Fun ... a mantra in a awesome electronic
sonic sound context

Life With The Macbeths ... a very classic Sparks Opera
with the female singer from "seduction", still straight forward arrangements ..

After a few hours of listening I gotta say I'm floored. The preview tracks were good, but Giddy Giddy, The Amazing Mr. Repeat, A Little Bit Like Fun and Life With The Macbeths are simply incredible. Unaware and Bummer are also excellent.

The best Sparks songs in a veeerry long time and easily R&R's best work as producers so far.

It's bloody fantastic...Not since Kimono to Indiscreet have Sparks been this good...I'm trembling and excited and awestruck at how intense and beautiful it is... An absolute Mael masterpiece....Thank you Ron and Russ for a beautiful album.
