Ok, It's out, looking and sounding amazing and dived headfirst into the pool!! I know the charts really don't mean much anymore these days but who predicts where 'hippopotamus' will land in the official uk charts top 100 next Friday October 15th?
I'm putting in a hopeful entry at No 12 but let's have all your thoughts before it's announced next week. No prizes but place your entry as follows....

'I Predict' Sparks will be number...12 (or your prediction)

Just a bit of fun. Fingers ,legs and toes crossed !!!

Im guessing a top 20 result for them I would love top 10 but given that FFS missed the top 10 I think it seems unlikely they will go higher. Im going to say no.18. Midweeks will be in later today so should get a rough idea then of where they may end up.

I will go with No 7

In Dundee on Friday at HMV it was labelled as " trending"

BMG are clever cookies they knew the exact week to release it. . Looks like it might top 20 or even better if it starts to snowball... Lets say 15.

we'd all love that but literally no chance of that happening im afraid. if they stay top 10 that will be amazing but they are likely to drop a few places over the week.

Yes that's how I see it too

Still the promotion from BMG has been great and this is probably their most accessible album ever. A couple of weeks ago I would have never predicted top 20 - remember that #6 comes from all us day 1 purchasers, the question is does the album have 'legs' which means breaking out into the wider market.

So I am going to be optimistic and go for 10. Would be an amazing achievement actually.

Fabulous news to hear Hippo's swimming around at no 6 in the midweek charts. My rather glorious bundle of double pictured disced albums, both packaged in a beautiful gatefold sleeve along with splendid photos of those Mael guys, still in their dressing gowns too, all arrived promptly on the day of the release. I suddenly had that wonderful Christmas day morning feeling of excitement that I used to get when the earlier albums came out. In those days of the mid 70's it was two pretty geisha girls dressed in Kimonos though. Those Mael guys were actually in clothes on the other side in black and white....(I so treasure my Sparks signed copy of my favorite album ever!!).... I had to carefully take disc 1 out of its sleeve, wonder at the luscious pool blue colored picture disc and then put it onto the record player, pick up the needle, put that on the record and then watch the whole thing all go spinning round as this brilliant music came blaring out of the speakers!! Hurray! The genius lyrics all written down on the inner sleeves mean I can sing along with Russell to my heart's content and learn all the words at the same time, just like I used to as a teenager....improving my vocal chords and enjoying dancing around the living room again as well!! Which is all very much needed exercise at my age....It's all mine forever to keep, adore, love and cherish!! And then I can do the whole friggin' ritual all over again with disc 2 too!! Who needs B-sides at a time like this eh???..(My, these Sparks guys are really spoiling us with this release!)...Oh the giddy, giddy joys of vinyl!!..
I was really never much a fan of invisible music. Who genuinely gets off on just boring air?? CD's were a bearable necessity but you just can't beat holding a good old heavy 12 incher or two in your hands. I'm so glad I have a really huge collection of them beauties still!!!!! Yay!!!!!
Times don't change much and all the good things eventually come back around again. It'll be interesting to see what number it lands on in the actual Vinyl album chart as well on Friday. I wouldn't be surprised at all at this rate if it's not in at the top 5 deep end.
Happy Days!! ,

Hopefully my woeful pathetic prediction above will be well off the mark. I figured because FFS only reached No17 then Hippo would not come in that high.BMG have done a terrific job.Great fond memories of Sparks on BMG in the mid 90s with Grat Sax and those concerts and the different mixes of those superb songs.Sparks management who have been utterly brilliant for a fair few years now must have been working their socks off,it is greatly appreciated by this fan.Sparks themselves are just warriors-different gravy.Traveling to different Countries each night recently then a gig and a stroll round the City and no doubt promotion. They just seem to thrive on hard graft.Loved the small video when the 2 of them looked and sounded delighted to be in a healthy midweek chart position.Hope it holds top 10 and charts in other Countries too.Thrilled to bits for Sparks.

Maybe the same for everyone.. The first big surge then a taper off towards the steady sales.. So hopefully it might not budge much. Also might it be a good idea up to Friday to only play the album on Free Streams like Spotify as this counts a bit doesn't it ?..
