I also discovered lots of things here. |
Very true... I've been introduced to a great many new bands all recommended here. |
I'm not prepared for a group hug but what you say is true.
I've been visiting messageboards at various artist sites for over 20 years. I assure you that I have discovered much new music because of these messageboards. It used to be trading cdrs and now its even easier with spotify playlists but the point is, sharing music is a good thing.
I think much has been lost with facebook and twitter but it doesn't matter because we still have this site.
Still not ready for group hug! _________________ Billy, Don't Be A Porter |

Wigwam - Bless your lucky stars (1975) .. 9-10
Heard them on John Peel at the time and loved the Nuclear Nightclub album.. They never made it big other than in Finland their homeland though..

"And" - Johnny Winter: 7/10
This one is not supposed to be a bluesy album but the flavour is still there in this great 70's rock album, not to mention the awesome guitar playing... |

Johnny Winter gets some nice help from a young Rick Derringer on this album. _________________ Billy, Don't Be A Porter |

"The Pick Of Destiny" by Tenacious D
8.5/10
If you want a good rock album and a good laugh as well, that's the album you wanna listen to. (or watch the movie, both are equally valuable)
I've always been a big fan of Jack Black (both the man and the artist), I never heard him talk about Sparks but he's so great I wouldn't be surprised if he was a fan |

Linda Lindas - Talking To Myself
I'm such a sucker for punky pop. I give this song a solid 8/10.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYah_JGyYSg
Art d'Ecco has a new infectious beat thumping single, Only Ones. This gets a 7/10.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ia3J-EqZnQ
This isn't the first song I like by Art d'Ecco, I hope to see them live at some point and remember they also did a cover of Angst In My Pants.
Masked country artist Orville Peck just released the epic sounding Daytona Sand which is 7/10.

There really aren't enough singers wearing masks.
Jack White has a new release...good moments but also challenging at times. No rating from me! _________________ Billy, Don't Be A Porter |

New release by Nazareth...really? The last thing I remember by them was "Holiday" which was released in 1980, I liked that.
I'm not crazy about the album as a whole but i do like the groovin' "You Gotta Pass It Around" and riff rockin' "Falling In Love".
in particular, "You Gotta Pass It Around" marries a hypnotic groove and some nice metalish vocals. It works really well on every level though the guitar solo seems out of place...as if an overdubbed afterthought. Regardless, nice song and a very solid 7/10. _________________ Billy, Don't Be A Porter |

No prizes for guessing which Halfnelson song they used for the outro

OK, I was on my computer cruising old files and stumbled across things I had saved over ten years ago in Windows Media Player.
Remember Mr. Big? No, not the American big hair metal band. I'm talking about the mid '70's British band who had a hit with "Romeo" and opened up for Queen on the ANATO tour.
Anyways...I'm loving on the American release of the LP Photographic Smile which is essentially a best of from their two UK releases (Sweet Silence, Mr Big).
I don't believe the US version has seen the CD format.
Anyways...now playing, "Feel Like Calling Home". 9/10 _________________ Billy, Don't Be A Porter |

New Way Of Life - DeeOhGee
This song is pure power pop and perfect for my ears. It's proof that the spirit of rock n roll is alive and well.
8/10
The only negative is I missed this release by a year...where is my support system for new music?? Hello??

Gyasi - "Pronounced Jah-See" : 5/10
I'm discovering this band through their latest album (came out last week or so), and I have to say that's a good one.
Even though there's nothing new here, it's well played and their look is just so cool :) |

Omega - The Alarm 6/10
If I knew The Alarm were still releasing material or even still together...I forgot. I bought the LP 'Strength' back in '85 or so and I thought very highly of it. So much in fact, one of the earliest CDs in my collection was the best of, 'Standards'.
'Omega' recalls the sound of the '80's while dealing with being in quarantine. The track "We Got This" is pretty decent as are several others.
One more release this week worth mentioning.
"Rich White Honky Blues" - Hank Williams Jr. 7/10
An absolutely listenable release that leans on blues a little more than country and gets better every time I play it. Well Done!
On a sad note. I just discovered Ron "Rontrose" Heathman of The Supersuckers has died...nearly two years ago! He hasn't been with the band the last couple times I saw them dating back nearly ten years. However, he blistered the first few times I saw the band and 2003's "Motherf*ckers Be Trippin'' is an absolute killer album.
The dual lead guitar attack by Rontrose and Thunder Dan was the calling card of the band during the first 15 years of the band's existence. Anyways, lighter held high...RIP

Lost classic! Well Done!
There is a new release out today you might like.
After The Head Rush by Art 'd'Ecco (8/10)
Solid release that reminds me of inspirational releases by Eno, Peter Hammill, Bowie and even Gary Numan at times. The 10 tracks explore different areas with no formula on this follow up to 2021's excellent, "In Standard Definition".
This release does not have the one killer track that will stick out like the song "Head Rush" from that release but it's still solid.
Same guy that last year covered "Angst In My Pants" if you want to know influences. _________________ Billy, Don't Be A Porter |

Eleutheromania - Trope
Lead vocalist Studenberg reminds me of Amy Lee but at their best, they are far superior. The rhythms are complex at times. Bass player is great. The song “Lambs” is a stand out.
I see a number have mentioned Tears For Fears’ Tipping Point. I have been listening to that too. Really good though a song or two were over produced. I assume those are from the original recording session years ago that they mostly ditched. _________________ "Language, however, is not language" |

You mentioned these might be old recordings so I had to check.
According to Wiki, the band didn't start on the Tipping Point album until 2013. The story only starts there...the wiki article is a good read.

New stuff I like today...
Hiding In Plain Sight by For The Record: 7/10
I'm a sucker for a catchy ska song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKCZyeFVF6g
Two 6's Upside Down by Dropkick Murphys: 6/10
A country western feel from my favorite Celtic punks. Well Done! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5yrNwMWff0
Baby Criminal by Viagra Boys: 8/10
Noisy and glammy like a snow plow on the dance floor. Good groove. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGZTfSn9o20
Surfing by Now Win: 7/10
I might be a sucker for ska but I'm a whore for catchy pop music with pure innocence. Mmmm good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2ZGijBC6u8
One more late addition...
Rosey by New Junk City: 8/10
I do love a good power pop band and this is what one sounds like in 2022.
