My view regarding Russell's voice still stands as well. Now bring on that new album.......

I voted 'yes'. Despite his impressive vocal range, Russell may not have the 'best' singing voice ever, but there is an undefinable and unique quality to his voice, not only when he is singing but also when he is speaking. A combination perhaps of tone, accent and (rather individual) pronunciation, but whatever it is I find it irresistable. Never experience this with any other singer.

I have no idea of what is going on? :o)

To European Ears i guess Russell has a really Unique Voice..
im not sure if some other LA male Singers Sound Like this
to or Could even do sparks Covers .. im not sure ... I guess
Russells Style has been trained by years of singing impossibly
complicated lyrics... i wonder how he would of been regarded if
he had Been in another band with a diff song writer doing more
mainstream stuff !! Bit suprising that 25 years in the biz he never
did a Solo Album !! maybe he still will,, Still it was the Lyric thing
and Great unique Voice that got me into Sparks in the 1st place
and havent heard much better since

Right, my original question was "do you think Russell has got the best voice you have ever heard" and of course I think that he certainly does. His voice is unique and I have never heard anyone that can quite match up!!

Russell has a very beautiful voice. When I hear him singing I feel very happy. But I also like the voice of Paul McCartney a lot. And Mariska, she used to be my neighbour, but chose for a family instead of a career.^^ Well, she still singing in a choir.

Paul has or maybe now it's had a better voice, even Murry Head, Mike Patton, Alice Cooper and Lou Reed have great voices but among the best are Simon&Garfunkel, Don Henley, Roger Daltrey or Low's Alan Sparhawk but best i like the late great Adam Faith.

I think Russell has the2nd best voice to be honest. I have to say Michael Jackson's voice would be 1st.

Would that be Costello or Presley?

And what about the old timers Sinatra and Nat King Cole whose voice is like a cup of hot chocolate?

But Russell has such an unusual voice like no other!!! I could listen to him all day . . . .

Presley of course!!! -

couldn't think of two voices more different yet utterly unique, they both had/have an incredible range, Elvis didn't do falsetto, but he did hit an amazing high C in It's Now Or Never - both unique and brilliant voices though.

The best voice is Captain Beefheart. No argument there.

Hi Sage

Yes, interesting you should mention that, I've been to every Prestwick Elvis Party since the first one way back when!!! I have been an Elvis fan since 1974 and a member of the Glasgow Club since then too. I have known Paul Downie (who organises Prestwick) for more years than I care to mention, since Paul was a Teddy Boy in fact (hope he doesn't read this)

Staying TOTALLY off topic - I host the Elvis Touch website on www.geocities.com/elvistouchglasgow and some Prestwick photos from past years are on there. Yes, we've had some great nights over the years. Hi Voltage were a highlight when they appeared last year. Mind you, I have recently added the Sparks website to my favourite links which should endear me to a few die-hard Elvis fans out there!

So...... I love Elvis and I love Sparks, such diverse musical taste I have, life would be awful boring if we just listened to the one artist donch'a think!!!

If women singers are allowed...in a house today,I heard a few tracks by an American blues singer called Odetta...Words can't express the emotions conveyed in that voice.

Yes, there are a LOT of damn good voices out there but Russell's is still the best (IMHO of course!!). There ain't no other voice that brings me out in goosebumps like his does.

Of all the singers who are around at the moment, I must admit that Russell is the ONLY one who brings me out in goosebumps, so would agree with you there Cali. The more songs I hear (as I delve into their large back catalogue), the more he continues to take my breath away with THAT voice!! Current "new" songs I'm getting really into are Moustache, Angst and Sherlock Holmes - brilliant!!

Bowie first, Scott Walker second, Russell a respectable third.

I'm not judging on technical merit - I'm no singer myself so I'm not qualified - but on goose-bump ability.

Go hear Bowie sing "Life on Mars" live, and you'll see.....

Russell does have a fabulous ( and unique ) voice, but, for me, he would be third, after Paul Rodgers and Jeff Lynne.

Theres a lot of artists i could say have the best voice, but im sure theyre all on par.

David Bowie - Listen to Sound And Vision, absolutely unreal, makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.

Morton Hacket - Another amazing voice.

Russel Mael - Russel can hit the high notes and still be very very clear, he has great diction (right word?). And he's in Sparks
