I think you're thinking of my I Married Myself joke on the photoshop thread:

jillany way, they both look better today,
especially ron, who doesnt look anymore anorectic, like he looked in the early days.

IMO that skinny appearance was a strong element of their visual stylistics as a band, along with Russell's "scared pidgeon" face and Ron's "scary" gazes & moustache. Sparks as a band of two fat or normal weight guys would make no sense for us just because they were weirdly skinny from the beginning (it really doesn't matter here that I happen to have a very soft spot for Ron's "all eyes and bones" look).

Probably best summed up on the cover of this album...

This photo always reminds me of R&R doing modelling as kids... It's seems like their own take on fashion modelling... attractive but weird... well, that's Sparks for ye.

Yes, this cover reminds me too of them as child models (and the "Plagiarism" cover too). I understand that those catalogues are another mystery, since nobody has yet seen R&R in such pictures. Maybe the members of the fan club know better.

Nope. Russell was asked about what he does to stay in shape and he answered "a lot of spinning classes". It was in 1998.

Good question... I haven't got a clue... I was hoping someone else would be clever enough to think dirty for me but I suppose spanking or swinging would suffice.

spinning is a power cyling class that lasts for a hour, you set different strengths during the hour,so sometimes you are freewheeling and other times you feel like you are going up a hill.

Well, that puts pay to that! I thought it might be some form of ballet... pity, I could just see Russell doing some pirouettes.

I like the Chaplin/Hitler one, but not the HUGE one, the small one or 'Mini-Hitler' as I call it!

Looking for something else (as usual), I found on Martin Gordon's site a story about Sparks hiring musicians in 1973. There's a funny detail about beards - says Martin Gordon:
"More adverts appear in the Melody Maker. All specify that applicants should be of pleasant appearance and not have beards. Maybe the beardwearers are also illiterates, for they turn up in their tens and twenties, some armed with girlfriends, some with Marshall stacks and some clearly not armed with anything, least of all guitar playing ability."
