Hi Raoul,
count me in for Bochum (and some other cities :-). Never before Sparks have played so close to my home - just a 15-20 minute-drive by car.
Although I have not been there since the 1990s Zeche Bochum still is a cool place - like those in Berlin, Hamburg and Frankfurt, all of them being more the kind of a concert hall rather than a club and slightly larger than most of the venues of the "Balls"-tour in 2000.
However (hoping no Bochumer is reading this), the city itself is not that interesting - except you are interested in a coalmining museum. For sightseeing neighbour city Essen (with Villa Hügel, Museum Folkwang, UNESCO heritage Zollverein, the Old Synagogue to name just few) is the better choice by far. Nightlife in Bochum takes place at its "Bermuda3Eck" (yes, the English translation for this would be "Bermuda triangle") in the city centre.
Here some infos on "Zeche Bochum":
Sparks: 17 October 2012 – Bochum, Zeche
Nearest airports: Düsseldorf (DUS) and Dortmund (DTM)
Zeche
Prinz-Regent-Str. 50-60
44795 Bochum
www.zeche.com
Zeche is situated in the south of Bochum, it can be reached by bus from the central station (No. 353 towards Bochum-Sundern, departs every 20 minutes), bus stop for Zeche is “Knappenstr./Zeche”.
Journey time: 14 minutes
single trip ticket (A2): 2,40 EUR
The venue is part of a former industrial site (coalmine), the hall (all area standing) has a small upper balcony/gallery on the right side. |

Overall a very good article in "Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung" announcing the Bochum concert, except for a few errors. There is a misspelled Russell with one "L", unconventional mathematics (1994 - 1974 = 30 years?) and the author´s odd thesis, that Sparks invented Glamrock opening doors for T.Rex.
The rest is fine and as far as I know this is the first ever article about Sparks in "WAZ", one of the most important daily newspapers in North Rhine-Westfalia. |
