Hi friends,
I'm happy to share that I've started a new YouTube show about Sparks. It's called Sparks - Entertainment AND Art and I plan to chat with many fans about how much Sparks means to them - and what they hear in the music that makes Sparks so special. The link is below!
Please give a listen - there are now two episodes, including a really fun interview with Christian Huey, the host of the All You Ever Think About is Sparks podcast. It would be GREAT - and would mean a lot to me - if you gave a listen, shared, and (importantly) subscribed.
I want to do my part to help spread the word about this amazing band and how important they are to so many of us! Thanks!

Well done for doing this Mr Monte. It's going to be a very busy channel I think, so cheers to its success. It looks good & hopefully people posting on it will be giving more than one lazy word of praise or 20 emojies to contribute, which as we all know can be the case elsewhere. Thanks very much for setting it up. _________________ The fan formally known as kermit

@MrMonte, I just posted something on Twitter about your YouTube show. It's going to be a lot of fun for the addicted. I'm so glad that you are helping to spread the word. :-) _________________ better drop the requirement that everything be great |

Thank you Waterloo and Kermit for your great words! I see a lot of opportunities with this new YouTube show, and a big part of it will giving fans the chance to talk about their Sparks experience - there are a lot of amazing stories out there!
I appreciate that you're helping to spread the word and hope others will do so. I'm not the best with social media - more in the "I get by" category! So all the little things help!
Thanks again,

Monte, I already subscribed and enjoyed listening to your discussion with Christian this episode. I find myself nodding in agreement (much of the time) and saying yes! -as though I were in the room with you.
For me that’s a big part of the charm of the Sparks community - there is a big helping of common ways of enjoying and thinking about their music which I don’t imagine is shared by many bands. The multi-layered lyrics are particularly important to me - very little of the catalogue is obvious or disposable in the sense of there being nothing to wonder about. Musically too, Sparks are (mainly) unapologetically “different”.
What a fabulous haul of singles your friend sent you! Lucky guy!
Thanks for the show Monte - see you at the next episode. X _________________ Tomorrow I'll find out all I should know... |

thank you Highersynth for those great words. I completely agree that there is a lot going on beneath the surface with their words...and one of the things that is so amazing is how people hear such widely different things. It'll definitely be something we'll be exploring as the show goes on.
Thanks for subscribing - I appreciate it!

Thank you, Dinky!
I was just coming here to let people know and you beat me to it!
And I've told Paul that I couldn't possibly keep up with him! He's a juggernaut! _________________ Check out my new YouTube show all about Sparks and their fans! It's at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QvkUP_P9O0&ab_channel=MonteMallin - thanks! |

and we do want to hear your views on TGICIHL.
The more I listen, the more confused I get, is it
1) A farewell album, Gee That Was Fun sounding ever more poignant
2) An album where they're almost wallowing in their success and telling bands to just be yourselves and things will happen |

I don't think it's the first...though I did for a while. I think it's closer to the second, but "wallowing" seems too strong a word. There are definitely ways to look at this album, but I think I've found a way that makes sense to me. I'm too old to say I'm "right" or someone else is "wrong," but I do think there's a theme to the album. Not a concept - a theme.
I appreciate you listened all the way to end and noticed that I said that! I didn't want to detract from Leslie's story though! And next episode, going international, as befits the band! _________________ Check out my new YouTube show all about Sparks and their fans! Maybe 'enjoying' rather than 'wallowing' as the latter implies a kind of torpor you could never associate with Sparks
I listened to the conversation you, Paul, Penny and Christian had just after the release of Latte, I still vividly recall your reaction to 'It's Sunny Today', incredibly moving |

John and I are so similar with our love for Sparks, and ages and life experiences, we could have been separated at birth
I'm not retired yet though !
Good stuff Monte |

I'm not retired yet either...but someday!
John was great - I think a lot of us oldsters could relate to his story. I like hearing from the UK perspective though - enjoying hearing Sparks for the first time in real time! _________________ Check out my new YouTube show all about Sparks and their fans!
