I'm listening to a lot of Bernard Hermann film music tonight and l know Ron is a big fan.... It made me think, l'd love to ask him if, given the choice would he prefer to be
1. a writer of sublime pop songs (which he is) or
2. to be a successful film composer?
Mmmmm......l think he'd be torn.

Do you have a question you'd really like the answer to?
(l started a new topic because l was so excited at actually getting onto the forum today l lost my reason!!!!) [/quote]

I think Ron would find it difficult to score someone else's film given the levels of compromise involved: doing a movie musical with his own music is a whole different thing. I listened to the BBC Sound of Cinema programme on Herrmann last week and he did fall out with directors quite regularly. Sparks is Ron's (and Russell's) sole vision: I don't know how he would manage to write music in the service of someone else's vision.

You're probably right Judes, although l wonder if someone said...How would you like to rescore the entire Ingmar Bergman catalogue?
He might be tempted......

A silly question....to either Mael.
Why does the cd version of Drowned in a Sea of Tears not have the wonderfully distorted opening (brief though it is)...that the video has?

I really liked that bit......😥
