In order to be eligible to vote, you must have heard both albums fully at least 8 times each.

Do not vote for Hello Young Lovers because you are caught up in the present hype.

Do not vote for Lil Beethoven because you know it "oh so well" and that it brings back fond memories of being with Sarah behind the bike shed.

Think seriously about each album and its musical content etc. Now pick which one you feel is the best of the two said albums.

There is no "I like them both equally" cop out option here, pick one or the other, nail your flag to your mask.

Cheers

It's a bit painful I grant you....................but I couldn't find a mast, hehehe.

So you go and quote me.....................preventing me from ever being able to change my error, sir you have great style.

The worst bit is "I can not cast my vote yet", ARRRRHHHHHHHH ! !

Yes, but you can listen to it whilst i still have to get my copy... no votes untill saturday or sunday ...or dare i even think next monday

but in all fairness 8 times is a minimum. Most records are great for a week or sometimes a month and than you do wanna put something else in the jukebox (spongbob squarpants greatest hits?). Only then one can standback and put things into perspective. Is this really that great? Wasn't GS&SV a bit better? or maybe No. 1 in Heaven? or Indiscreet? or KMH?

I say: lets vote at the end of the month.

It's quite impossible to choose! But I think HYL goes further!

I am inclined to agree, this is such a close run thing in my mind.

I believe that both albums are quite astonishing, simply breathtaking in execution alone to be honest, but have opted for Lil' Beethoven.

I believe that this album (Lil') I will still be playing in 20 years from now. It offers serious longevity in my view. It's not demanding, you pop it on and away you go irrespective of your mood, it's sheer fun to hear.

HYL's pushes the boundaries, it's more complex, it's more more more of everything but I don't see the longevity being there. It's so intricate and clever that I feel that I will need to be in the right frame of mind to take it on. This is easy to do right now as it's all very new to me, only the 25 plays so far ! ! ! But in time when I see Lil next to HYL's I suspect that I am gonna reach out for Lil'.

I have really struggled with my own question, should have put a "BOTH" option in ! ! !

It's probably way to early to cast my vote on this topic after just 3 full listenings of the new album but i do tend to think overall Lil'Beethoven is more complete IMO, and like Achoo i feel singing along with the new songs is for the most part just impossible. This is NOT a popalbum. Even if R&R claim to (want to) make popmusic, but different and with more humour. It sure is different and bits of it humourful but pop it is not maybe with the exception of Perfume.

Lil be is better, but HYL is great.

My baby's..., Carnegie Hall and The rythm thief are more creative and beautiful songs than the three best ones I adore on the new album : Waterproof, Rock... and Metaphor.

I'm hesitant to admit it, but I voted for Lil' B. I think that because Lil B was completely fresh when it came out, it'll always stand out. HYL breaks lots of new ground, but it still has Lil' B as its precursor. Also, maybe the songs on Lil' B are stonger overall (There's No Such Thing As Aliens sounds unfinished to me, for example). And finally, Lil' B has got MBTMH on, which just about tips the balance...
HYL is still a great album, though.

I voted after around 25 plays.

Lil' B got 100% of my vote and HYL's got 98% of my vote.

I now feel that HYL's deserves 99% of my vote and wonder how i will feel after the shows.

Whilst I maintain that long term I will be singing Lil' B songs and perhaps not HYL's.......................I now think that I will be singing the classy repetitive bits of HYL's long term, the whole song will be impossible.

HYL's is the only album in my life that has confused me, my feelings for it alter all the time, always great but the levels of greatness seem to constantly shift around.

One thing I will say is that HYL's is a seriously classy work of art. It should be hung in the tate...............oh and in cars it would become a hit and your homes it becomes advertisements and in the streets it becomes the children singing...

I am the Lyric thief ! ! !

Achoo, you should have added an 'please can i change my vote'-option...

just in case someone has found him-(or her)self in error let's say next week or next month.

Have to vote for Lil Beethoven - NOTHING else has had as many listens as that album in my house...ever!!

New album is good, but one or two tracks, in my opinion, don't quite come off, whereas I thought there was only one non-brilliant track on LB.

And I am writing this after having seen the show in Glasgow last night.

Like the mix deadcalm.

I have to say that these two albums will make for a great budget double album in around 20 years from now.................but not before.

I think Young Lover is their best album sice the 80's.

And Lil had Surban Homeboy on it so that took some beating!

After much inner debate, I've decided upon 'Hello Young Lovers', mostly because it's a bit broader. But if you ask me my favourite Sparks-track since the turn of the century it still is 'How Do I Get To Carnegy Hall?'

HYL is much more interesting musically to me. Although I do love all Ron's keyboard dynamics on Lil' B., there just isn't enough SINGING on it for my taste. Both albums tackle great subject matter, but Lil' B. doesn't make me want to get up and move like HYL does. They'll both live on as two of the most innovative albums of all time, but wait...........after their NEXT one, there may just be a 2nd trilogy!

I agree with wolfie on all points. Yes, Lil B is a dynamite album but there just aren't enough of Russell's wonderful vocals on it. However on HYL, his vocals are in abundance in all their spectacular glory. Lil B is a good album to sit down and listen to but HYL, hell it makes you want to get up and dance. I can't sit still whilst that album is on, believe me.
