Bouncing Souls - Hopeless Romantic 9/10
I am not a big fan of Bouncing Souls. I only have a few discs and I didn't love them live and I'm not really into the the skate-punk genre...but..Hopeless Romantic is a go to disc that receives double digit plays a year. _________________ Billy, Don't Be A Porter |

Every Picture Tells A Story LP by Rod Stewart-stunning and an easy 10/10. Everyone should have heard this album and if not try youtubing it.He was so brilliant back before 1975. Hyptnotised LP by the Undertones, just prior to Rod and also 10 stars on this crackerjack of an album. Lifes sweet right now. |

Breakfast by Teleman
I was quite taken by this group at The Troxy when they opened for FFS....the album is quite the little gem....their sound is ethereal without being fey....closest comparison to vocals and style might be Andy Arthurs (A Raincoat) without the comedic whimsy. This album will definitely be getting a good few plays, if you get the chance give it a listen...you won't be sorry. |

The Ronald Opus - Silvery 8-10
Just checked out the Silvery Bandcamp Page. The latest digital only album "Etiquette" is on it.. They Still sound like the London branch of Halfnelson in places. _________________ I Think that went very Well |

Modern Lovers - Modern Lovers 8/10
I missed out on the kings of proto-punk when their debut was released. I didn't learn about them until the Pistols covered Roadrunner on Great RnR Swindle. Since then I've heard a few songs because of punk sampler CDs but I never bothered properly exploring the band. BTW, Joan Jett playing Roadrunner is ALWAYS a concert highlight for me.
Over the weekend I picked up their only release complete with bonus tracks (they call them bonus tracks but they're just tracks 10-17 to me). So, I'm 39 years late to review this as a new release but better late than never.
People want to compare them to the Velvet Underground. I understand the comparison but I like this better...allot better. No Sister Ray here.
Essential purchase if you like Velvet Underground/Lou Reed/Iggy/Dictators/Talking Heads.
The song I'm Straight might be the greatest bonus track ever. "Hippie Jaauwhnny". _________________ Billy, Don't Be A Porter |

Nice. I heard "Stone In Love" (almost) just two days ago. I was in my car listening to the high school football report on an AM station. The station started fading in and out a little and a static filled "Stone In Love" started becoming audible. OK, it isn't from their debut but it is still a great song.
Stylistics - Very Best Of
I'll score it a 7/10 as we go into a soulful Friday.
Thanks Deano for the suggestion. _________________ Billy, Don't Be A Porter |
