it would be nice if as members of the fanclub, that we would be able to purchase physical copies of the new singles from the merchandise section, its very frustrating to bid on the limited items on ebay etc, when they sell up to 40 , knowing they were sent free from the distributers, and that we would be lining the pockets of greedy promoters /radio stations etc, so we would then be financing sparks, could this be looked at mr.d...please x

Promo Cd singles always sell for big money on eBay. Been outbid on many occasions.

Me too. But sometimes I succeed. With two FFS singles for example.

Second Bryan's suggestion!

Absolutely terrific idea. In their interest as well as ours!

What is the cost to press say 500 copies of a cd single-it may well be quite expensive??By the way this questions is not meant to be clever but do they still do cd singles? Can't remember last time i saw one. Some bands are doing limited presses of 7" singles these days. Notice that Sparks are doing a cassette of the new album-that has crept back in again in last year or two.

sorry just read my reply...... my point is these cds are already made for promotional purchasing, not for everyone so if only a 100 people would like them at least give an option to buy these cds !!!! i even bought the casette version of hippo and ive never bought one in my life ...i always hated this format, but as memorabilia ..yes i bought one !!!!!!!!!!!!, what the hell is going on ebay soon and it will sell for over 20, so although sparks sent them out to get the promoted, someone has just pocketed a nice sum for something they didt give air time or want !!!

I think what Bryan is saying is...If say 100(easy number for my own maths skills) promo copies were sent out and each of these copies ended up on e-bay...at 50.00...that is 5,000 not going directly to the proper people...however if 100 copies were made available to fans at 10 a throw...that is 1,000 going to the right place.
Or better still if Sparks put their own promos straight on e-bay (cut out the middleman) they'd coin in the full 5,000 themselves.....Joking, before anyone jumps on me!!!

I agree that the price for 'promo' stuff is often a ripoff. As a part time collector of Ian Hunter items I find that 'free downloads' of bonus tracks or singles are also worthless for a collector.

Lots of artists have gone the route with releases only available through their website. Three of my favorites (Todd Rundgren, Ian Hunter, Supersuckers) have all dabbled with this. The KING of this and I do mean KING is Bill Nelson formerly of Be Bop Deluxe.

A very quick count over the last 10 years is that Bill has 40+ website releases. Many are download only (w/artwork) but 20+ are limited edition CDs.

Looping back to Sparks and making promo stuff available. Who is footing the bill for the promo stuff; band or record company?

.

Nobody will ever stop opportunist people selling promos and making good coin to boot. Its been going on donkeys years. Its here to stay i'm afraid.Simple really-if anyone thinks its a rip off then just don't bid and or buy.Sounds harsh but sometimes life is a bit harsh and if theres a buck or two to make then people will make it.On a lighter note the turntable doesn't recognise cd singles so its a no goer for me.Just hope this album sells in sufficient numbers to make Sparks their management, record company and fans very happy.
