It seems to be a track that divides listeners. Personally, I love it. After a brief intro and three excellent, but slightly more straightforward songs it appears as if to shake off casual listeners before the album goes deeper into uncharted territory.

Immediately after the release of Hippopotamus, I mainly listened to the songs that hadn't been previewed. For the last week I've listened to the album from start to finish, and I must say there's a great flow to the tracks.

After reading a few "Not-sure-about-this-track" reports I was unsure what to expect...I think it is a cracking little number, fits in well IMO

I'm in the "Not-so-sure" camp I'm afraid. Not that the track is weird but it gets on my nerves a bit with the repetition.

Agree. There is a great flow to the tracks, I found Giddy Giddy a bit annoying at first but I've got used to it now.

They always seem to have one track on an album that I don't like at first but then it starts growing on me.

I hated Equator and Achoo on first listen in '74 but love them both now

I find Sparks' albums really reward repeated listening. Whether it's coming around to a song you didn't originally like, or hearing some new aspect to music or lyrics. It speaks to how much forethought they put into making their recordings.

The track's grown on me, although it'll never be one of my favourites from the album. It would have been easier for the band to go for lyrics which were a bit less 'out there', but they're never at their best when they've played it safe.

Giddy is Irritating for me because its like a fairground ride seems to go round and round and makes me feel nausia. Still I guess interesting that a piece of music can do that

Exactly. I couldn't agree more. Well stated.

The idea with Sparks albums is to jump in the car with your converted Mrs or any other person you have converted to see the light, follow them on tour with the Hippo CD on blaring constantly from venue to venue. Then you eventually arrive back home after a few gigs possibly a little jaded from driving and then proceed to spin the LP on the platter and Giddy Giddy becomes bloody genius.Always sounds giddier on record though than CD but that's just a taste thing. There job done.............

freeke`s impressions are very similar to mine!

Bummer has some vibe that comes close to Giddy Giddy,
and I think Bummer is even better ...

Giddy Giddy is one of the stronger tracks for me ... lyrically very playful, musically bustling with a momentum of its own.

Neither Giddy Giddy nor Bummer are my favourites, IMHO they're ok but the rest of the album is so strong that anything less than absolute genius looks a bit thin
