Really enjoyed this interview. Don't think I've ever heard them this relaxed. Whereas 10 years ago they might have been reluctant to discuss "rivals" and contemporaries, here they light-heartedly talk about Bowie and Roxy Music.

Obviously, Sparks are doing something right musically at the moment. Top 10 on their own terms. They've got an excellent band, and the concerts are getting rave reviews. With Sparks you never know what they'll do next. Really hope they could keep some continuity and build on Hippopotamus and its live performances. Sparks-y as always, but with the earthiness that reaches outside of the hardcore fanbase.

Interesting viewing if not quite uncomfortable viewing. 'Stimulating interview' says Ron with his arms crossed mostly throughout.....Russell is nervously scratching his hands and arms mostly throughout too, talk about defensive body language. They certainly do have plenty of manners though but still even they looked perplexed and dumbfounded here.
Don't quite know what planet the bumbling Steve Jones was on but his constant burping and lack of knowledge was just plain rude. I know he was a sex pistol once but does that really qualify him to have his own radio show?

@ Kermit
I certainly agree with you regarding Steve Jones, although I suppose not all of us are blessed with the ability to grow old gracefully.
However, in his homespun way, he was quite effective in that he got the lads to talk about things they don't usually cover in interviews.
My best guess is that they just don't like him, they're gentlemen and he's an oik so why would they get on?

I have always been under the impression they get on really well with him.. Old pals. I think he uses the same gym as Russell.. A lot of it was in joking. Russell laughing was just doing a double act.. Pretty similar to the 1st interview...

The Maels posted a picture of Russell and Steve on FB several months back. The caption referred to Steve as a pal of Russell. According to some of the post's commenters, the association goes back to the 80s and Ron and Russell are regular guests on his show.

You could see Ron laughing at him like a kid.I enjoyed Ron's reaction to him.For me Sparks seem to understand and accept his old skool English ways.Harmless fun for me and I enjoyed it a lot.
