I'm not really sure why I ike Sparks; maybe for you, SOLDAT, it's their stellar command of the English language?

Why do you like Sparks?

1. There real good
2. There music is kool
3. the moustache is cool
4. i'm special to know about them because noone does

Will that be your next poll?

It is easy to ridicule someone not writing in their mother-tongue; after all, how good is your Romanian? If I read something like the above posted about me, I would think twice about posting on this forum again. I think you owe our young Romanian friend and Sparks fan an apology.

My Romanian's terrible, probably because I so rarely hear it spoken (much less sung) in California.

And so I don't make a point of posting inane comments in a Romanian-language forum.

Hospitality on the attack...

St. Monicant, your comments are inexcuseable: the sort of crass, small-minded, isolationist bigotry one would never expect to hear from an American...

Yes, well...

One would expect an English girl (especially one from ever-savvy Glastonbury) to have a better sense of irony

I understand...you're new and trying to score points with the humorless crowd...plenty of left turns required, of course...

Your subtlety could use some work, though, as could your assumptions...

Cheers...

Actually I'm Irish, and as the world knows we're too thick to understand irony. 8O

St. Monicant, are you in fact Ron Mael posting under a nom-de-plume, or should I say nom-de-guerre? :?:

I wrote this on another forum in a thread about under-rated bands, it pretty much covers the basics of why I like Sparks, if I listed everything I liked about them I think the forum would run out of bandwidth, heres what I put....

''I'd have to say pretty much anything by Sparks. They've always been lurking in the shadows producing fantastic, imaginative music and have influenced a plethora of other artists yet no one seems to know anything other than ''This Town Aint Big Enough For Both Of Us'', ''Beat The Clock'', ''No. 1 Song In Heaven'' and / or possibly ''When Do I Get To Sing My Way'' in the UK. Different songs were successful in different countries so some people might not even know those. Their latest album, '''Lil' Beethoven'', IS the most adventurous album around at the moment, an insane mixture of classical, rock and electronics and yet it is none of those things. I think their lyrics are and have always been extremely clever (ok there is the odd exception), and their music is intricate, bold and imaginative and yet they still remain very under-rated and almost unheard of, for a band that could lay claim to creating synth-pop (the original Pet Shop Boys, Soft Cell, Blancmange etc) amongst the many styles they have tampered with rather than emulated I find this astonishing.''

I voted for ''both of them'' in Soldats poll.

Sparks are good for the music and for being two brothers who have managed to "hang in there" for the proverbial "long haul" in the fickle fated world of the "music industry", ya gotta admire dem boys for that... Thank God that the Mael brothers stuck wit' it, AND stuck to their guns... Oh, and did I mention they were simply spectacular in Central Park last summer?!?... They were!!!...

I like Sparks because of their perspective on life. It is like a philosophy.
