I've listened to the album about half a dozen times now - so I've given it a fair crack - and I'm definitely in the underwhelmed camp, sad to say. No standout tunes for me: opening track Do Things is not bad; Hit Me has a pleasing amount of la las; Hotel Fab has its moments (and is a worthy Sparks song title); My Devotion is a fine example of that rare beast, a straightforward Sparks love song; Light Banter is probably my favourite. All in all though, reminiscent of Steady Drip, which disappointed after Hippopotamus.
But R£R followed up Steady Drip with the marvellous Girl ... Latte, so I'm hopeful for the next LP!
A word about the cover - different versions for different editions, but standout is the lenticular one, which is excellent. |

Thanks, I dont speak Italian, but google translate came up with this
The Mael do not reinvent themselves because they do not need to: they remain true to themselves in a way that is not self-celebration, but a radical affirmation of artistic freedom. |

my impressions are close to this review ... sort of ... |
That's a very fair review. Politely points out their views on what they don't like without being arsey or snide. |

From AllMusic weekly capsule reviews
Sparks - Mad!
Transgressive Pop/Rock, Electronic
The duo delivers more witty satire that spans symphonic mayhem, taut synth rock, creeping existential dread, and real pathos.
Ha, seems fair to me! _________________ Billy, Don't Be A Porter |
